WELCOME to the Santa Ynez Valley Pony Club!

Sportsmanship, Stewardship, Leadership through Horsemanship

PO Box 853, Santa Ynez, CA 93460

The Santa Ynez Valley Pony Club (SYVPC) is based in the Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, California. As a part of the Middle California Region Pony Club and the United States Pony Club  (USPC), our mission is "to develop character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports."

One of the oldest Pony Clubs in the area, SYVPC was founded in 1976 in the Santa Ynez Valley. Our program stresses individual effort and self-sufficiency, as well as encouraging teamwork among the members. We teach each member the skills to take complete responsibility for their horse's health, training, and care.

The Pony Club provides many learning opportunities to horse lovers between the ages of 6 - 24 as well as a Master's Class for riders 25 and up. It also introduces Pony Club members to a wide variety of disciplines -- Dressage, Cross-Country, Show Jumping and Eventing.

Some of our activities:

Mounted and Unmounted Meetings -- Members gather twice a month for riding instruction and to learn about the various aspects of horse care and safety.

Ratings -- USPC has developed a set of Standards of Proficiency to test members on their horse knowledge and riding skills. Each new member begins as Unrated (UR) and progresses up through the levels at his/her own pace.

Summer Pony Club Camp -- A great week of riding instruction and fun for Pony Club members, held in June each year.

Shepherd Ranch Horse Trials -- Shepherd Ranch hosts two United States Equestrian Association (USEA) recognized Horse Trial Events each year in June and August. Our Pony Club members not only participate in this amazing event but also participate by volunteering at the event.

Regional Rallies and Competitions -- We are fortunate to be located in a region that offers a tremendous selection of opportunities for our members to ride and compete in: Quiz, Showing Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Games, Tetrathlon.

National Championships -- Each year the USPC hosts a 4-5 day National Competition. Competitors who have qualified at the regional level in a particular discipline may compete in that event at Championships.
